When I look this article, I find that it is very difficult to read and understand. I have a fear to do it. There are many words that I don’t know; and many sentences confuse me. I have sense of loss. Maybe I don’t read article in English for a long time. I feel it strange. I know I should waste more time to seek it.

 After I read the paragraph one, I feel the king is stupid and despotic. His idea treads on justice. I don’t agree with him. I can not get the clearly meaning of “semi-barbaric”.

The paragraph two is too long to waste my much time. When I finish it, I find this paragraph is not very hard. I can understand the general meaning of them. “Galleries” “throne” and “hurrahs” confuse me, but they can’t influence me to understand the paragraph. This paragraph shows the detail about king’s idea. If you were accused, you have two choices. The tiger eats you or you will get a beautiful girl. You are subject to no guidance or influence, only chance. It is dangerous but attractiveness. I hate the king but I like his idea. If I break law, I will get a beautiful girl possible. This is not a favor to prisoner. This idea will ask more man to break law.

I know why the institution was a very popular one. But I don’t think the king’s method is fairness.

In paragraph four, the king’s daughter with a handsome and brave man fell into love was regular. But the king found it, he was very angry. He wanted to stop them. He immediately had the youth imprisoned and appointed a day for a trial in the arena. I think his action was foolish. He was not a good father. It is not fair to his daughter and the young man.

In paragraph five, I am not familiar with the words of “savage” “fiercest” and “maidens”. I can guess their meaning basis on these sentences. The king wanted to find a cruel tiger to cope with the young man. He was so bad. The king didn’t respect his daughter. Although she was a princess, she has no power to choose her lover. Her life was desolate. His father did not really love her.

There are many people came form different place to pay close attention to the man’s choose. The man was tall and handsome; he was greeted by a hum of admiration. That is why the princess loves him. The people think the man appeared the arena was a terrible thing. It shows they did not agree with their action.
