Problems in MY ENGLISH STUDY  
First, I'd like to say that I'm still interested in English. But, that is not all. So, I will list my problems.
 Generally speaking, I'm always worried about my oral English and writing. In my memories, my English writing is not bad. But, in CET exams, the mark of this part is not good. And so as my speaking, I do not speak so much maybe that's something to do with my character, and sometimes, emotion.
I am really not clear about myself and my English level.Actually, the only thing I do care is my whole English ability.
By the way, the passion and condition around you is very important for your study, I think ,especially to English. So, I hope I should keep my interesting in English, be brave to speak and pay more attention in my lack section.

Learning about Unit 2  
I’ve been told that good articles are usually not easy to be comprehended. I think this essay is belong to those good ones. Through carefully reading, I've find some points I like in it.
 As the analysis after the article, it refers that “15 cents a column” is certainly not the grand total in its real sense; it’s the humor of the writer when he motioned the low payment. I really like this kind of humor that it let the article not to be too dull (for me, I don’t like to read article like this one). What I mean is that to express the mind through a particular way. Another sentence is ‘whenever I doubted I had the right stuff to be a writer…’ which I like because the usage is usually seen in Chinese. As mothers often say that their children are or isn’t the stuff to be/do…
On the other hand, I quiet agree with author’s view. Just as he written ‘In a world too often cold and unresponsive, such notes bring warmth and reassurance.’ I do think so. Though, I’ve only received a note once time, I remembered it very clear and kept it even now, and , I think I will keep it both in my mind and by my side, forever.

1. The author would tell us that his payment is low and he also laugh at some kind of such phenomenon in society.
2. “until it got rag-eared” implied that the author had kept the letter long time, and also referred that how important the letter is to the author.
3. In the essay, just as the author said that confident is important besides the basic condition to be a writer such as the ability to express ideals clearly and to organize the article and other thing like that. In addition, maybe you need to realize the quest of reader and society’s value and then you could make your article popular and to be success, then you may be called a successful writer.

re-Unit 2 (Second Half)  
After reading the second half of the unit, the first feeling break to my mind is that the writer give many points to prove that he do write notes often. Of course, it’s only my opinion. He’s not only giving something about how to write the notes, but also list some meticulous points by rule of thumb. I think I may learn by heart, to use this way to write and make my essay specific.
To express appreciation, willingness is important, and adds the four “S’s” the author has referred. These things is obvious in the article, what I’m really interested is that the author has said that he had prepared an annual Christmas letter for long-distance friends for the last 25 years, but he also told that he has been noted by the letter from his old boss and mentor to compose a few overdue letters of his own. Does it means he not so bear in mind that...?

The word  
I have a problem in understanding the phrase "be shown to" which is used in the sentence "teachers were shown to call on males in ..." though I can see the meaning of it. Can it be replaced by any other words?
A sentence  
I have been confused by the sentence” This has a tremendous impact on the learning process for, in general, those students who become active classroom participants develop more positive attitudes and go on to higher achievement." How to analyze the structure of it and what is the exactly meaning of it?
Two words  
Two words -‘conduct’ and ‘deprive’ , what are the meaning?
Question  
What can we learn from the first sentence of paragraph three from the perspective of language learning? And, why does the author give the example of the research of the Sadker?
It has been told in paragraph 2 that teachers were amazed to see how biased they appeared on videotape, and again the author wrote that sometimes teachers unknowingly prevented girls in paragraph 3.

The sentence: “Their research showed that many teachers who thought they were nonsexist were amazed to see how biased they appeared on videotape”. But how does this phenomenon that teachers are biased in teaching appear?
It’s a question from our group leader Celia.Y. I choose it for the thought has been following the essay’s order.
I think the answer can be found in the paragraph 3 and it also might have some connection with the theme of the article. 

Different thought, different result
Firstly, I want to say that I really can’t believe it, but is seems true and has already been interviewed. Yes. It’s an unbelievable story but true. And, the strangest thing is the ‘hug’. Why? Just get hug and then leave and then called 911, did the robber needs warmth and the family real warmth enough… it’s laughable.
Listening the story and what I can get from people’s sound is that they just convey the real happening again with a little hesitate (I may not give the exactly words).
What else… I think the robber give up what he had planned to do have something to do with the family which he broke in was different responded as common ones. They just acted as usual, and even invent the robber to join them and had a glass of wine. How moved will the strange man be! I can imagine that he may become a usual or even a good person from then on. Just as a truth I have ever heard that anyone would be moved by the heart sound though it was only a universal sentence. ‘The more general, the more truth,’ I do think so.
Someone has taught me that there are always some reasons for one do a thing whether it is bad or not. So, give a chance to let the one know another thing he would do really better than just stop what he want to do at that moment.

If I want to “copy the example” of Don, I may choose to write a letter or a note. Though Mobil phone and e-mail are useful and easier nowadays, I do think that way is much better like the author has referred that notes is more inspiring and lasting. When friends are in low motion, your uplifting comments in your not or letter should bring some warmth and encouragement to them and make them to be confident to jump out of their trouble. Even they feel your heart of care, which is your function. Anyway, the words write by you are really different with the typed words by computers and phones. So, I will choose to write by myself.
The world is ‘cold and unresponsive’ may mean that people live in the world nowadays are more care about themselves. Like an essay we’ve learned last term said that there is a lock between human’s heart and more and more people close their hearts and consider that would protect themselves better. Give each other a smile and take care about people around you, the world may being warmth and reassurance and you may be more happy.

Self-assessment Grammar
1. Including them in one passage: passage writing, group discussion, chatting, etc, I have written about 1700 words in length.

2. I detected __2_ grammatical errors, while my partner helped find __1__ errors. (In a passage)
 
3. I am glad to have such a good partner, help detect many of my errors.

4. In future I will pay more attention to my grammar by reading again what I have written and focusing on more writing skills.  

5. I think my plan to improve my grammar is workable because whatever you do is dependent on your willing and carefulness.

6. On the whole I am satisfied with my grammar. On a scale of one to ten, with ten being near maximal satisfactory with my efforts on grammar, I would like to give 7/8.
